How to manufacture stamping parts?

Step 1: Stamping Die Design

The first step in stamping die manufacturing is the design of sheet metal stamping. During the design phase, both stamping part and stamping die factors must be considered. Stamping parts include considerations such as bending radius, grooves, holes, material requirements, tolerances, wall thickness, dimensions, etc. At the same time, stamping die factors must also be taken into account, including:

a. Geometric shape and dimensional requirements of the stamping parts.

b. Selection and thickness requirements of stamping die material.

c. Stamping parameters, such as stamping force, speed, frequency, etc.

d. Stamping die structure design, including die base, upper and lower plates, guide columns, springs, etc.
e. Position, quantity, size, and shape of punches.

Step 2: Stamping Die Machining

Once the initial stamping die design is confirmed, the manufacturer will strictly follow the design drawings and technical requirements to machine the stamping die. Generally, the stamping die material needs to undergo rough machining on machines such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, as well as precise measurement and calibration, to ensure that the dimensions, flatness, precision, and other indicators of the stamping die steel meet the requirements.

Step 3: Grinding And Heat Treatment

Stamping die components require grinding and heat treatment. First, the rough-machined die steel needs to undergo further precision grinding to ensure its accuracy and quality. Then, heat treatment is performed to change the crystal structure and chemical composition of the stamping die steel, which improves its hardness and wear resistance.

Step 4: Electrical Discharge Machining(EDM)
Electrical Discharge Machining(EDM) is a high-precision machining process. It can be used for cutting, drilling, creating grooves, slots, and complex 3D shapes. When manufacturing complex stamping dies or high-precision, high-surface finish, and highly wear-resistant stamping die inserts, wire EDM is an essential production process.
Step 5: Stamping Die Assembly

stamping die assembly is the process of assembling various pre-machined parts into a complete set of stamping dies. It usually includes the following parts:

a. Upper and lower stamping die bases

b. Punch and die plates
c. Springs and cylinders
d. Guide posts and bushings
e. Other auxiliary components, such as various gaskets, pressure blocks, and locating pins.

Stamping die assembly requires professional stamping die assemblers to operate. According to the design drawings, various parts are assembled in a specified order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the stamping die.

Step 6: Metal Stamping the Parts

Before mass production, operators need to adjust the stamping press and stamping die to ensure that the stamping die position and force meet the required specifications, and ensure that the stamped parts meet the design requirements.

Step 7: Quality Inspection

Based on customer requirements, further surface treatments may include anodization, electroplating, and more. After customizing the surface treatment, the focus shifts to ensuring the highest quality standards for each automotive stamping parts. Advanced measurement gauges are utilized to verify dimensional accuracy, ensuring alignment with specifications.

Step 8: Package And Shipment
After production is complete, the stamping parts are packaged to ensure they are not damaged during transportation until they arrive at the customer plant.
